How to Submit Data to Alaska Mapped

We welcome contributions of imagery and DEM data

Licensing

To even consider adding data to the Alaska Mapped repository, we must work with you to understand the license the data is under. A copy (pdf, scan, text file) of the license needs to be including with the submission of the data. Some licenses are limited to specific users; if you can list the users or groups who are granted access by the license, please do so. We’ve worked with a lot of different licenses, so we can help you interpret yours.

Data Format

Alaska Mapped can ingest most data formats. However, to be able to successfully read and geo-locate the data in our services the data itself or associated metadata needs to provide some fundamental things:

  • Projection
  • Datum
  • a well defined no-data value
  • Extents if not included in the data format (e.g., world file)

We prefer to receive data in the following formats for ease of ingestion:

  • GeoTIFF
  • ERDAS Image File (HFA)

However, we will happy to accept data in any geo-referenced format.

Additionally for DEM data, we need to know:

  • the vertical units: feet or meters
  • the horizontal and vertical datums
  • the geoid model
  • whether the data is ellipsoid or orthometric heights
